A new approach for owners & users of sky ranch airport

the construction and clearing of the approach to our runway 09 are a nice improvement.  Previously, the trees could make this an interesting, and hazardous approach, requiring caution.

Now that the approach path is un-obstructed it presents a new set of potential safety problems if your approach path is too low or you land prior to the displaced threshold.

Things to consider:

1. Runway 09 has a displaced threshold marked by the three (3) runway lights on each side of the runway.  Make this your touchdown point and you will eliminate any approach hazards.

2. There is a set of power lines on the west side of hwy 189, we have purchased orange obstruction balls and chelco will install them.  The power lines are not be a hazard if you are on the correct glide slope.

3. Sky ranch lane crosses the west end of runway 09.  Vehicles on this road can be an obstacle for aircraft trying to touchdown prior to the displaced threshold.  When you turn final look for any vehicles on sky ranch lane.  There will be signs posted on sky ranch lane cautioning vehicles of low flying aircraft.

With this un-obstructed approach path to runway 09 we have some considerations beyond the safety items mentioned.  There are several homes on the west side of hwy 189 and we need to minimize our noise footprint for these neighbors, both landing and taking off.

We recommend that you consider rwy 09 the preferred rwy for takeoff when the wind and other local traffic permits.  If wind is not a factor take the time to taxi to 09 for departure.  In addition to reducing takeoff noise over the homes, rwy 09 offers other advantages, a run-up area, and more options should you encounter an engine problem on takeoff.
